AC to USB adapter is the small power converter that converts AC power to 5V at the output of USB connector, can be used to charge any portable electronic devices, for example, IPhone, IPod, Ipad and cellphone.
Most of the AC to USB converters are designed for use as a charger e.g.,USB wall charger, USB travel charger, USB power adapter. Some models have two USB adapter or “AC to Dual Port USB Charger”. Some models have AC outlets with built-in surge protection device or circuit, e.g. ,Belkin Mini Surge Protector Dual USB Charger , Belkin BZ103050vTVL. Each power output for a USB port is designed to provide standard USB 5V at maximum load current of 500mA. AC to USB power adapter can be divided into two main types. Each type has its own benefits.
1. Simple AC to USB wall charger.
These chargers are only designed to charge your electronic devices. Just plug the charger into a wall AC outlet, connect your device through the USB port, and your device will be charging. Most of these chargers are compact designed, lightweight, easy to carry while traveling and foldable. Some models have two – four USB output, so you can charge multiple USB devices simultaneously.
These chargers have the intelligent Integrated Circuit(IC) inside to recognize and charge the battery. It automatically switches to a standby mode when charging complete to prevent batteries from damage caused by over heating, overcharging and short circuit. The LED used to indicate the charging state.

2. AC to USB wall charger with protected AC outlets.
These chargers are designed like the charger above mentioned, but there are parts of the protected AC power outlets added, so we can be used to charge USB devices and provide multiple AC sources on a single wall AC outlet for other AC devices simultaneously. The protection part may be built-in device or circuit which use as a surge protector, also called surge suppressors. The main function of a surge protector is to protect your electronic devices from power surges or transient voltage and spikes, most act as a power strip.
